The Army trains in the Venetian lagoon

From 19 to 23 October, the Italian Army conducted the “Cavallo Marino di Candia” exercise in the area of ​​the Venetian lagoon, between Jesolo and Venice. The activity involved the units dependent on the "Pozzuolo del Friuli" cavalry brigade command and also involved the assets of the 33rd electronic warfare regiment, the 17th "Sforzesca" anti-aircraft artillery regiment and the 5th "RIGEL" regiment of the 'Army Aviation.

During the exercise, which took place in compliance with the measures to contain the contagion from Covid-19, the brigade command deployed its tactical command post in the logistic-training base of Cà Vio, Cavallino-Treporti, while the activities tactics were developed by the “Serenissima” lagoon regiment in the offices of Mestre and the Vignole island (Venice).

The purpose of the exercise was to train brigade command staff and units in the conduct of an offensive activity as part of a shore to shore operation in a context warfighting. During the activity, the coordination skills of the maneuvering of the dependent units in the various environments of use were improved and, in particular, in the amphibious one: the "Pozzuolo del Friuli" cavalry brigade, in fact, is the large unit of the 'Italian Army participating in the project National Projection Screening Capacity (CNPM).

The "Cavallo Marino di Candia" was included in the federated exercise "Dagger Resolve 2020", planned by command for operational forces north, with the aim of consolidating and developing the capabilities of the units in the application of the technical-tactical procedures relating to Battlespace Management (BSM). The main phases of the exercise were followed by the commander of the “Vittorio Veneto” division, division general Angelo Michele Ristuccia, accompanied by the commander of the “Pozzuolo del Friuli”, brigadier general Filippo Gabriele.
