The incident occurred during the exercise walk along the normal Spiz Vedana, at 900 altitude meters, in the descent phase. The alarm was triggered around the 11.40 and the 118 sent the Suem helicopter from Pieve di Cadore, while a team from the Belluno Alpine Rescue team was preparing to intervene in support of operations. For William Tracanna, immediately joined by three companions, there was nothing to do. Once recomposed and embarked, the body was recovered with a windlass from the eliambulanza.

Originally from Turrivalignani, in the province of Pescara, Tracanna had enrolled in the 2006 and had served the Seventh for six years. With the Alpine troops, he had participated in two missions in Afghanistan and in the "Safe Roads" operation in Italy. They remember him as a strong and generous boy, his companions, still shaken by the tragedy. A boy who believed in his work and in the values ​​of the Alpine troops, as underlined by Colonel Stefano Mega, commander of the regiment, who immediately joined his family in Pescara.

Along with a large representation of the Seventh, the commander will take part in the funeral, which will take place tomorrow morning at 9.30 in the country of origin of the young alpine.
