The Italian army returns to "1000 miles"

The Italian army returns to participate in the 1000 Miglia, the timeless race, a unique event, a dream that runs along the roads of the Bel Paese. 24 historical editions from 1927 to 1957, 31 re-enactments from 1982 to today.

Tradition, excellence and competition in a 4 days long party, from Thursday 15 to Sunday 18 May.

The army crew, coming from the Transport and Materials School of Rome, will cross the roads of Italy with the 508 Colonial 1100 camouflage of the 1938, one of the cars belonging to the Historical Museum of the Military Motorization, competing in the special classification reserved for cars military historians, a challenge that has not been repeated since the 1952.

Captain Daniele Repola and sergeant Maurizio Lacanale, driving the army car, will cross around 200 Italian municipalities presenting the hundreds of thousands of people gathered along the roads of Italy with the armed force that was the first to be equipped with engine. It was, in fact, the 1902 when the ministry of war bought the first car, a Fiat with petrol engine from 12 CV.

Thanks to the contribution of Vittoria Assicurazioni and the logistical support provided by the existing army departments in the regions affected by the competition, the colors of the armed force will be represented along the 1.708 km of the route from Brescia to Rome and back.

2 Infopoint, the 15 in Brescia in piazza della Loggia and the 16 in Rome at Castel Sant'Angelo, set up by the Military Army Command of Lombardy and by the Military Command of the Capital, will provide information and illustrative material on the job opportunities offered by the Italian army and on the competitions currently in place, such as, for example, that for the recruitment of 85 officers in permanent service expiring the next 19 in May.

On the 50.000 m2, 65, the Historical Museum of the Military Motorization hosts royal carriages from the Quirinale Palace, 40 semi-tracked and armored tanks, 40 vintage motorcycles and 300 trucks and cars.

Among these stand out the Bernardi, the first vehicle built in Italy in 1894 and of which there are only five examples worldwide, the 1926 Amilcar Italiana CGS Sport, a 2-seater barchetta model, with a 4 in-line 1.074-cylinder engine cc, of which this museum houses the only original in the world and the evocative Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Gran Sport Zagato, with the 1.752 cc straight-six, capable of even winning a Mille Miglia. The museum is located in Rome - Cecchignola, in viale dell'Esarm 170, it can be visited free of charge on Saturdays, from 9 to 12; from Monday to Friday the opening is by appointment only. The Army Transportation and Materials School carries out training and teaching activities for the specialization of military personnel operating in the specific sector, both nationally and abroad in out-of-area operations.
