It took place at the NBC Joint Defense School in Rieti Open Day in favor of Allied Countries, Industry, Universities and Research Centers where the Italian Army presented the results of the first experimentation cycle on Robotics & Autonomous Systems (RAS) and presented INNOVARMY, the innovation model that will fuel the next activities in the field of new technologies.

The RAS testing campaign originates from the analysis of emerging technologies (EDTs in the English acronym) and the impact that their use will have on the way of conducting military operations. Experimentation was initiated in early 2022 in order to understand how to take full advantage of and best employ new technologies in performing the fundamental tasks of the Earth Force.

During the first year of experimentation, the Army, supported by the MILREM Robotics company, conducted studies and exercises - even in a virtual environment - to evaluate any benefits deriving from the use of RAS technology in the conduct of tactical activities in an urban environment . The results made it possible to develop concepts of use and acquire useful elements of information, both to guide the strategy for introducing the RAS into service and to support the general process of capacity development of the Armed Forces.

Following the axes of development indicated by the Chief of Staff of the Army in concept paper "Army 4.0 Projected into the future", the next experimentation cycle will be focused on the ability of RAS systems to perform tasks related to distributed logistics and on the possibility of using robotic platforms in the so-called 'last mile' of the battlefield.

The final event of the first coil was the occasion to present INNOVARMY, an innovation model that the Army has decided to apply from the next cycle of experimentation. Through the publication of periodicals call document technologies, the Armed Forces plans to intercept innovative technologies useful for solving the operational problems under study and facilitate their use.
