The bomb squads of the Army in force of the 8th “Folgore” parachute destroyer genius regiment intervened in Verona, in Corso Venezia, to neutralize a dangerous remnant of war dating back to the Second World War.

The US-made bomb weighing 1.000 pounds was found during excavation work on a construction site and safely placed by a team of 8th Regiment specialists.

The delicate reclamation operations, coordinated by the prefecture of Verona and the northern operational forces command of Padua, began last Sunday, following the completion of the evacuation procedures which involved over 2.700 residents.

The bomb squads secured the bomb, removed it and transported it to the Boscomantico area (VR) where it was safely detonated on 2 August.

To guarantee the maximum safety framework, the engineering specialists have created structures to mitigate the effects of an accidental explosion during the defusing phase, specially designed for the need both to protect neighboring buildings and to reduce inconvenience to the resident population. The complex work made it possible to significantly limit the clearance range.

For the paratroopers of the “Folgore” brigade, this is the seventh complex reclamation operation that has been carried out since the beginning of the year.
In 2021, over 800 bombs were neutralized in the seven provinces of competence.
