Two training courses dedicated to the instruction on the use of radar were concluded at the "Lesa" barracks in Remanzacco (UD) Cleaning and Objective Acquisition Station (SAO), equipment used by artillery observers to monitor the battlefield, acquire targets and correct artillery fire.

For the 3rd land (mountain) artillery regiment it was the real resumption of the training activity after the acute phase of the virus crown, since the two courses had been promptly suspended just the day before the activation with the sudden upper hand of the lock-down, leaving room for contagion prevention measures and interventions in favor of the population, adhering to the requests of the mayors to support the civil protection teams.

The managers of the training, during the planning and the instructors sent by the artillery command of Bracciano (Rome), in the conducted phase, had to pay particular attention to the anti-Covid 19 measures provided for by the law decrees and ordinances in force, reducing the number of visitors and observing the distances and hygiene measures contemplated.

The radar Cleaning is a portable terrestrial surveillance system designed for the detection and recognition of vehicles or people moving on the earth's surface even at several kilometers away, but also in the air and in the water. Controlled remotely via cable or radio, it can operate both day and night.

La Objective Acquisition Stationinstead, it is a remote controlled portable laser observation and pointing system, capable of discovering, identifying targets and communicating data. It is equipped with an infrared thermal camera for operating in the dark, a daytime camera, a laser rangefinder and an internal GPS. It can store data, photos and videos made by transmitting them to the command and control systems of the Army, with which it integrates.

Both systems, adopted to equip the target acquisition and observation cores of the terrestrial artillery, have shown great flexibility of use. They are in fact profitably employed also in the context Homeland security, as part of the "Safe Roads" operation, allowing to monitor large portions of the territory, using the staff in an optimal way after having experienced them in operations abroad, guaranteeing excellent results to increase the safety of the bases.
