Today, in the courtyard of the "Guella" barracks in Gorizia, headquarters of the "Pozzuolo del Friuli" cavalry brigade command, a meeting with the representatives of the city of Gorizia was held to greet the contingent leaving for the theater of operations Lebanese.
The prefect of Gorizia were present, if Raffaele Ricciardi, the mayor of Gorizia, dr. Rodolfo Ziberna, the police chief of Gorizia, dr. Paolo Gropuzzo, and a representative of the brigade command that will participate in the “Leonte XXXI” operation. The commander of the "Pozzuolo del Friuli", Brigadier General Massimiliano Stecca, greeted the whole city of Gorizia, the family members of the soldiers who will be employed in the operation and recalled all the training and exercise stages that marked the preparation of personnel before employment abroad.
The "Pozzuolo del Friuli" cavalry brigade frames most of the assets of the Italian Army assigned to Capability Amphibious Basket, developing in recent years a qualified expertise in autonomous amphibious actions of the Armed Force and in inter-force amphibious operations.
For the cavalry brigade it is the sixth mandate in Lebanon, where it will constitute the command of the Sector West of UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon). The “Pozzuolo del Friuli” opened the “Leonte” operation in 2006, immediately after the so-called “Summer War” between Israel and the armed Hezbollah militias.
In addition to the brigade command, the "Serenissima" lagoon regiment will be employed which, with aliquots from the "Genoa Cavalleria" regiment (4th), the "Cavalleggeri di Lodi" regiment (15th) and the 3rd sapper engineers regiment, will constitute the command of Italbatt, and the “Pozzuolo del Friuli” logistics regiment which will build the IT-NSE (Italian National Support Element). They will be part of the Joint Task Force Lebanon also aliquots of the: "Pozzuolo del Friuli" command and tactical support department, of the 1st transmission regiment, of the Multinational Cimic Group and of the Carabinieri.
The mandate of the “Pozzuolo del Friuli” will be the one sanctioned by the United Nations Resolution 1701 which provides for the control of the cessation of hostilities in southern Lebanon and for cooperation with the Lebanese Armed Forces.
