The appeals to donate blood during the Coronavirus emergency did not go unheeded by the 5th engineer regiment of the "Sassari" brigade.

The Army engineers opened the gates of the "Bechi Luserna" barracks in Macomer to host the local Avis volunteers, together with whom a day dedicated to donation was organized to actively respond to the reduced availability of blood and blood products, a necessity constant for Sardinian patients, accentuated in recent days due to the ongoing health emergency that risks causing a drop in stocks on the island due to the fear of citizens to leave their homes to go to transfusion centers.

"An emergency in an emergency", the head of the Civil Protection Angelo Borrelli and the president of the national Avis Gianpietro Briola defined it in recent days. "Thanks to this gesture of generosity, it will be possible to continue to guarantee the therapies of the other patients who need transfusions in Sardinia every day".

"We try to give our contribution also with gestures like blood donation, especially in difficult moments like this", said the commander of the 5th regiment, Colonel Pietro Romano.

"Donating blood is safe even in the time of the Coronavirus and has no contraindications. The collection centers and the car library used today are in fact equipped and organized to guarantee all the safety measures for Covid-19", explained Francesco Sussarellu, president of the Macomerese association.
