"Invictus games": the Italian team starts

This morning the team of 13 Italian Paralympic military athletes, selected for the Invictus Games, took off from the military airport of Ciampino (RM) for the British capital. On the C-130 of the Italian Air Force also their relatives and technicians who will support the athletes in this first sporting competition.

The games will start on Wednesday 10 September and until that day the athletes will dedicate themselves to finishing trainings at the stadiums and facilities where the official competitions will then take place.

Participants will compare with over 400 athletes from 14 different countries including Afghanistan, USA, United Kingdom, France, New Zealand etc., in 9 individual and team athletic disciplines, at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and the Lee Valley Athletics Center .

A few days ago the Italian team was greeted at the Quirinale where the head of state, Giorgio Napolitano, handed over to the team bishop the tricolor who will accompany them during the games.

The team arrives at the meeting after months of training and hard and constant preparation, carried out thanks to the precious contribution of the technicians of the Italian Paralympic Committee (CIP), with whom the Defense a few months ago signed a memorandum of understanding, aimed at to promote and spread the practice of adaptive sports towards disabled soldiers contracted during the service.
