The citizens of Belluno met yesterday in Feltre to once again embrace their mountain troops and remember the young fallen, inaugurating the war memorial in Afghanistan, created by the artist Antonio Bottegal and wanted by the National Alpine Association of Feltre, seat of the regiment up to the 2005.
"It is important to remember these young people who have paid with the price of life, the fulfillment of duty, for the good of the whole world," commented Colonel Stefano Mega, commander of the regiment, thanking Ana di Feltre and the mayor Paolo Perenzin.
In the monument, located in Piazza Battaglione Feltre, are not depicted alpine soldiers engaged in military operations, but in the rescue of men and women. Together with the fallen youths in Afghanistan, he recalls the fallen in the peace missions, but also the sacrifice, the altruism, the solidarity of the alpine and the important role played in his homeland, intervening in emergency situations - from Vajont, to earthquakes, to recent wave of bad weather - and abroad, with support for the civilian population in the Afghan theater and in former Yugoslavia.
The heartfelt ceremony closed three days of appointments dedicated to black pens. In addition to a large representation of the Seventh, it saw the participation of the relatives of the fallen; of division general Gianfranco Rossi, current deputy commander of the Interregional Defense Forces North Command of Padua, former commander of the 7 Alpine in the early years of the 2000; by Brigadier General Ignazio Gamba, commander of the Julia Alpine Brigade. Among the civil authorities were the prefect of Belluno Giacomo Barbato, the regional councilor Elena Donazzan and the mayor of Feltre Paolo Perenzin.
