The Chief of Staff of the Army, Lieutenant General Carmine Masiello, met, at the headquarters of the “Genova Cavalleria” regiment (4th) in Palmanova (UD), the personnel who in the coming months will constitute the ITALBATT Task Force within the UNIFIL mission in Lebanon.
Gen. Ca Masiello, after greeting the Banner of “Genoa” and receiving an update on the many activities carried out in the preparation period for the mission, wished “good work” before departure to the next Italian “Blue Helmets”.
During the United Nations operation, the “Genova Cavalleria” Regiment (4th), under the command of Colonel Giacomo Tricase, will lead ITALBATT, placed under the command of Sector West, entrusted to the “Pozzuolo del Friuli” cavalry brigade. ITALBATT will have a squadron group that also includes two platoons of the “Savoia Cavalleria” Regiment (3rd), a battalion of the “Serenissima” lagoon regiment, a battalion of the brigade’s logistics regiment, a company of the 3rd sapper engineer regiment and specialist assets, which will operate in close synergy to ensure compliance with the United Nations mandate.
In his speech, the Chief of Staff underlined the importance of the Italian contribution in Lebanon, defining it as a crucial commitment for peace and security in one of the most unstable areas of the Middle East.
“You have trained for the most difficult and complex scenarios to be ready to face any unexpected event. Keep our Tricolor high and work, as always, with professionalism and seriousness of purpose! Be bearers of values at the service of peace! Good work!" This is how the Army Chief of Staff greeted the women and men of the “Leonte XXXVII” contingent.
The Lebanese theater confirms itself as a mission of great international relevance in a highly complex operational context, where the fragile political balance and international pressures require an intervention aimed at security and dialogue. The UNIFIL mission, with the active participation of Italian forces, aims to contribute to the restoration of stability in the region, monitoring compliance with the truce and promoting a safe environment for the local populations.
