This morning, the visit of the Chief of Staff of the Army, General of the Army Corps Carmine Masiello, took place at two regiments dependent on the command of the Support Terrestrial Operating Forces.

At the “Gen. Simone SIMONI” Barracks, home of the 41st IMINT “CORDENONS” Regiment, after the rendering of honors and the salute to the War Flag, the commander of the regiment, Colonel Carlo Conte, presented the current situation of the department to the armed forces' top brass, focusing on the training activities carried out by the newly formed APRM training center, as well as prefiguring possible future developments, along the main axes of technology, training and values.

General Masiello, meeting the military and civilian personnel of the regiment, underlined: “You are the vanguard of what the Army must be, technological and trained to face modern scenarios. The threat today comes from above. Drones are the present and the future of the battlefield. The Army must change culture, train operators and invest in ideas. Ideas have no degrees: innovation is a duty. It is your Army, which we must build today for the future".

The 41st IMINT Regiment “Cordenons" is a unit of the tactical information brigade specialized in instrumental battlefield surveillance, through the integrated use of ground assets (radar) and Mini/Micro Remote Control (APRM), continuously employed in military operations abroad and on the national territory. Furthermore, since October 2024, the regiment has been responsible for training the Armed Forces' APRM operators.

The visit continued at the "Lolli Ghetti" Barracks, headquarters of the 3rd "BONDONE" targeting support regiment where the Authority was welcomed by the regiment commander, Colonel Benedetto Lucci who subsequently illustrated the peculiarities of the department with particular reference to the use of Military Remotely Piloted Aircraft for the activities of targeting acquisition in support of the Army's artillery units.

On this occasion too, the Chief of Staff greeted the regiment's personnel, expressing: "Times and paradigms on the field have changed. Italian artillery has been set aside for too long, but today it is fundamental, like your mission: you are its eyes through the use of drones, which are the technological vanguard of the Army, in which to invest intellectual and human resources, as well as financial ones. Target acquisition is the beating heart of the 'artillery system' and will be the decisive factor in ensuring effectiveness and operational superiority to face the challenges of the coming years".

The 3rd Targeting Support Regiment "BONDONE" has the task of carrying out research, surveillance, detection and identification of targets through the use of drones, specifically used for fixing, detecting and designating targets, in favor of subsequent engagement by the Artillery fire dispensers. It also carries out the action of guiding and controlling engagements and evaluating the effects achieved.
