This morning, the Army Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Carmine Masiello, and the General Commander of the Carabinieri, Lieutenant General Teo Luzi, met the new officer cadets of the 206th “Dignity” course, on their first day at the Modena Military Institute. Sergeant Major Andrea Adorno, Gold Medal for Military Valor, was also present at the event.
After participating in the flag-raising ceremony, the first time in the Courtyard of Honor for the new students, they paid homage to the Institute Flag and met, in the Great Hall of the Military Academy, all the students of the 206th course. Gen. ca Carmine Masiello expressed to the cadets his satisfaction for the commitment shown during the internship phase that allowed them to begin the new path of human and professional growth. Addressing the young students, the Chief of Staff said: “You have chosen a difficult mission in a particularly complicated period, today there are 56 wars at the same time, including the main ones in Ukraine and the Middle East. This is the moment in which you have chosen to join the military and for this you have my respect and my admiration. You will be commanders and you will have to be responsible for thousands of men and women to whom you will give a daily example. A few years ago, one of my predecessors compared the Army to the human body: the personnel are the heart and the brain, the means are muscles, the rules are the tendons and nerves. And in an emergency, it is the nerves that allow us to resolve crises, as the Army is often called upon to do. You must not tolerate our rules being called into question, because our Institution would be called into question, which has helped make Italy what it is. It takes courage, do not be afraid and do not be ashamed of having chosen the profession of arms. You will understand that you are the best expression of society, thanks to respect for the rules and values.”
The general commander of the Carabinieri, Gen. Teo Luzi, addressing the officer cadets said: “Your presence in this institute is the result of a life choice, as it was for me many years ago. A choice made of generosity and sacrifice, in the service of the Country. The path begun within these walls may appear full of difficulties but in these two years the value of friendship will arise in you, which is sharing and altruism, the most important feeling to nourish a sense of belonging to a department, to your Armed Forces and the entire military team. If you keep faith with the commitments made in this Academy, you will be able to contribute to the good of the Homeland. By serving the Country and risking for the Country you will be protagonists of society and you will have the gratitude of the Italians”.
Particularly significant was the meeting between Sergeant Major MOVM Andrea Adorno and the students of the 206th course, with whom he was able to share his human and professional experience and the values that guided him and helped him overcome the most difficult operational moments.
The Military Academy of Modena, established on 1 January 1678 with the name of Royal Academy, is today the university-level military training institute responsible for the initial training of future officers and doctors of the normal role of the Italian Army and the Carabinieri, in a course of study that will lead to the achievement of a degree in Strategic Sciences, Engineering, Medicine and Surgery, Veterinary Medicine, Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technologies and Law.
