The technical skills of the personnel and the means provided to the Army guarantee the precious intervention in case of public utility and for the protection of the environment.
In particular, the engineering departments, thanks to the experience gained in foreign missions and the high "dual-use" connotation (ability to cooperate with civil authorities in favor of citizenship and the operational one expressed in operational theaters), operate in favor of the community national both in the event of public calamities and for the remediation of war remnants still widely present in Italy.
From 2000 to 2013, the EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) cores of the Army engineering departments carried out over 37.000 specialized interventions for the reclamation of explosive devices. In 2014 the Army specialists of the 4th Engineers Regiment Guastatori of Palermo have already brought 13 reclamation interventions completed with the relative disarming of 13 bombs. The Army is the only Armed Force responsible for training the bomb squads of all the police forces, armed forces and armed bodies of the state.
