The Chief of Staff of the Army, General of the Army Corps Carmine Masiello, accompanied by the mayor of L'Aquila, Pierluigi Biondi, visited the 9th Alpine Regiment which, starting from 14 January 2025, supports at a logistical and infrastructural level the new training battalion of the 235th "Piceno" volunteer training unit of the Army.
The guests who welcomed the visit were Colonel Mario D'Angelo, commander of the 9th Alpine Regiment, Colonel Giovanni Cruciani, commander of the 235th RAV “Piceno”, and Lieutenant Colonel Massimiliano Careddu, commander of the newly formed 2nd training battalion.
General Masiello wanted to meet and greet all the personnel present in the “G. PASQUALI” barracks, reminding them “You have made a choice that does you credit. It is not for everyone and it is no small thing. You have chosen to put the collective good before personal interests, taking on the responsibility of serving the country, to protect the safety of the community and to defend the homeland, with discipline and honor. The educational and human path that you have undertaken will make you more aware of the sacrifices and satisfactions that this choice entails. It will prepare you for the values of the Army, which are the continuous thread of our Institution, make the difference in difficult times and are a guarantee and premise of reliability. Welcome to the Army family!”
The purpose of the visit was to meet the entire command chain of the training battalion, inspect the premises that will host the new volunteers in the coming months, carry out logistical-functional and training activities, and visit all the new aspiring volunteers on initial term.
The establishment of the new training and education unit not only responds to the need for organizational management of a growing number of volunteers who have chosen to join the Army, but also represents proof of the strengthening of the "three pillars" on which the Italian Army is based today, namely training, technology and values.
