Cinquale Airport (MS), September 21, 2024, the HEMS congress, the most important event in Italy dedicated to helicopter rescue, ended in the afternoon. The two-day meeting saw representatives of the healthcare, aeronautical and civil protection sectors confront each other in the field of helicopter rescue and medical evacuation in modern operational scenarios.
The main topics of the congress were the use of rotary-wing assets in crisis areas, MEDEVAC, evacuation with a dedicated medical asset on board the aircraft, and health risk management, with numerous speakers whose interventions ranged from traumatology to resource management, up to the regulations concerning the use of airfields.
Paratroopers of the 187th “Folgore” regiment conducted a demonstration of “rescue during fire action and prolonged rescue on the battlefield”, after having reacted to a simulated fire contact following the landing from a UH-90 helicopter of the Army Aviation. The military rescuers, after having responded to the threat, proceeded to stabilize the injured person, materialized by a highly technological medical simulator, and to set up an improvised dressing station, applying the maneuvers and medical devices most suitable for the treatment of the traumas detected.
