Grenadiers celebrate 366th anniversary

The ceremony for the 1th anniversary of the foundation of the “Granatieri di Sardegna” took place at the “Gandin” Barracks in Rome, home of the brigade command and the 366st “Granatieri di Sardegna” regiment, in the presence of civil and military authorities, representatives of the Combatant and Army Associations and the Medal Collection of the National Association of the Granatieri di Sardegna. This is the oldest infantry specialty of the Army, whose origins date back to 18 April 1659, with the establishment of the “Guards” regiment by will of Duke Carlo Emanuele II of Savoy.​​​​​

The deployed departments, through the uniforms and equipment worn during the ceremony, represented the multiple contexts in which the Granaders of Sardinia they are employed.​​​​​

During the ceremony, Major General Di Stasio, commander of the South Operating Forces, awarded the Silver Cross of Merit of the Army to the War Flag of the 3rd command and tactical support unit of the grenadiers "Guards", a recognition of high value that underlines the operational excellence and dedication demonstrated by the unit in carrying out its missions.​​​​​

In the afternoon, the commander of the South Operating Forces met the soldiers involved in the operation “Safe Roads” thanking them and expressing the closeness of the command to all the soldiers, men and women, who work together among the people and for the people.​​​​​

Finally, at the end of the visit, General Di Stasio met with the Prefect of Rome, Lamberto Giannini, who expressed his deep appreciation for the work of the Army soldiers employed in the Operation “Safe Roads” and for the promptness demonstrated in the interventions in the Piazza di Roma.​​​​​
