The Cavalleggeri of Treviso and the "Slataper" high school of Gorizia are back "in the trenches"

Thursday 23 March, the command and tactical support department "Cavalleggeri di Treviso (28th)" based in Gorizia, as part of the planned training course dedicated to military history, concerning the events of the First World War that involved the regiment on the Monfalconese Karst , led a Battlefield tour divided into two different moments; the first, during the morning, took place along the Joffre and “del Tamburo” trenches, up to 93 m. altitude, a topographical point where the fighting of 15-16-17 May 1916 was described in detail and where held a brief but heartfelt commemoration ceremony for the Fallen of the Department right in the area where they heroically sacrificed their lives. Subsequently, to the north of the Military Memorial of Redipuglia, along Mount Sei Busi, the trenches were identified, bearing the epigraphs referring to the cavalry units on foot in 1916 with particular attention to the regiments "Treviso", "Guide" and "Genoa".

The entire activity was led by Dr. Marco Pascoli, military historian of the Great War and qualified mid-mountain guide who, with the expertise of the expert researcher and the engaging speech of the enthusiast, was able to offer a historical account full of details and particulars not always known, but essential for understand the peculiarities of karst warfare.

As part of the well-established collaboration between i Cavalrymen of Treviso and local institutions the activity, sponsored by the municipalities of Gorizia and Ragogna, byNational Cavalry Weapon Association and the municipality of Treviso, whose name the department proudly bears, saw the attentive and competent participation of a Fifth class of the "Scipio Slataper" Human Sciences High School in Gorizia.

In his introductory speech, the commander of the department, ten. with the. Andrea Pastore, was keen to reiterate the importance of these moments as they bind together the worlds of the school, the territory and the Armed Forces in the name of shared memory and the values ​​of which, those who sacrificed themselves in the trenches of the Great War, they are still witnesses today.
