Gorizia re-embraces the "Pozzuolo del Friuli"

A few days ago, in Piazza della Vittoria in Gorizia, the military ceremony for the return of the Italian contingent to Lebanon of the “Pozzuolo del Friuli” cavalry brigade, commanded by Brigadier General Massimiliano Stecca, took place.

The event, chaired by the commander of the Northern Operational Forces, general of the army corps Salvatore Camporeale, was attended by the military, civil and religious authorities of the area, the mayor of the city, Rodolfo Ziberna and the deputy prefect vicar of Gorizia, Valeria Gaspari .

The commander of the “Pozzuolo del Friuli” brigade, in his speech, retraced the commitment of the large unit of the Italian Army in southern Lebanon.

During the period of stay in the land of the cedars, the brigade carried out over 2.500 patrol activities on foot and on board vehicles, day and night, of which a percentage conducted in close synergy with the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) and carried out contingent training aimed at to strengthen the sharing and coordination of technical-tactical procedures and familiarization in the use of the means and materials supplied, implementing the synergy within the UNIFIL environment.

In addition, 450 activities were developed Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) and of Gender (GENDER) in the entire sector of competence, including: medical assistance, training courses, donations, inaugurations and monitoring of projects, events in favor of small businesses and meetings with military, civil and religious authorities.

The ceremony was an opportunity to share with the citizens of Gorizia the commitment of "Pozzuolo del Friuli" in southern Lebanon, in order to guarantee the security and stability of the area, as sanctioned by Resolution 1701 of the Security Council of Nations United.

The "Pozzuolo del Friuli", on its sixth mission in Lebanon with the colors of the United Nations, was responsible for the western sector of UNIFIL in which 3.800 blue helmets of 15 of the 46 contributing countries to the UN mission operate and of which about 1.000 are part Italian military. The activities carried out in the operational theater are conducted under the coordination and according to the directives given by the Interoperable Summit Operations Command (COVI).
