The Army engineers, coming from the railway engineers regiment of Castel Maggiore (BO), have completed the operations of defusing a war device found in the locality of Santa Giustina in the municipality of Rimini (RN).

The device, a British-made aerial bomb weighing approximately 104 kg and containing approximately 31 kg of TNT, dating back to the Second World War, was found in very poor condition.

The clean-up operations, coordinated by the Prefecture of Rimini and the Northern Operational Forces Command The operations of the Army were carried out in three distinct phases during which a temporary protective structure was built on the site of the discovery to mitigate the effects of a possible accidental explosion, the device was neutralized by removing the trigger systems, and finally, the aerial bomb was detonated in an area identified and prepared in such a way as to protect public safety.

To ensure adequate safety during the removal of the detonation system, it was necessary to close traffic on some roads adjacent to the area where the device was found and evacuate approximately 140 residents.

The experience of the Army specialists of Castel Maggiore is well demonstrated by the approximately 280 interventions carried out since the beginning of the year in their area of expertise (Marche Region, Umbria, Republic of San Marino and in the provinces of Bologna, Forlì Cesena, Rimini and Florence).

The Italian Army, thanks to its capabilities, is able to intervene throughout the national territory in cases of public utility and in situations of natural disasters, proving to be a resource at the service of the country.
