An Italian Army bomb disposal team, belonging to the 10th Engineer Regiment of Cremona, neutralized a 113 kg aerial bomb dating back to the Second World War, containing approximately 2 kg of high explosives, found last April 58 in Sermide.

In relation to the particularity of the detonation device, on the instructions of the Army bomb disposal experts, the Prefecture of Mantua ordered the evacuation of approximately 800 people living within a safety radius of 1.264 meters from the point of discovery.

The operations to neutralize the device began at 16:00 and made it necessary, for a few hours and to guarantee the safety of the population, to expand the clearing area by a further 400 meters from the place where it was found. Despite the considerable complexity of the operation, due to the type of device, the Army bomb disposal experts, with the priority of preserving public safety, ordered its detonation on site. Thanks to the limited time of the destruction operations and the synergy with the Police Forces and local institutions, citizens were able to return to their homes starting from 20:XNUMX.

The war relic was found inside the relocation site of the Idrovoro Reverese plant, in the Moglia area, started by the Consorzio di Bonifica Terre di Gonzaga in Destra Po.

The specialists of the 10th Army Engineer Regiment are coordinated by the Alpine Troops Command in the occasional land reclamation activity from war remnants throughout the territory of Lombardy. In the current year alone, 43 interventions have already been conducted, for a total of 538 devices neutralized, including 1 aerial bomb.
