The swearing-in ceremony for the students of the “Platone III” course took place this morning at the Arco della Pace in Milan, in the presence of the Army Chief of Staff, General of the Army Corps Carmine Masiello, and the commander for the Training, Specialization and Doctrine of the Army, general of the army Carlo Lamanna.

At the end of the speech by Colonel Antonio Calligaris, commander of the School, and in the presence of the Institute Flag, decorated with the Bronze Medal for Army Valor, the 75 students of the “Teulié” Military School responded emotionally and in unison with a convinced and resounding “I swear!” to the usual ritual formula.

The solemn act of loyalty to the Italian Republic sanctions the full entry of the students into the ranks of the Army. The Chief of Staff of the Army, addressing the students being sworn in during his speech, underlined: “Today, symbolically, you enter the great family of the Army, a family loved by the Nation, respected for its dedication, its high professionalism and skills and for its spirit of sacrifice. A family that has, however, rules that remain unchanged over time, that are rooted in our education and that, despite a world in continuous and rapid evolution, guide us in everyday life: serving the Homeland also means putting the good of the community before ourselves, when necessary, putting the fate of others before ourselves. Ours is a life without shortcuts, based on commitment and study, which requires the ability to deal with fatigue and never give up, because we have the duty to be ready and prepared, as always in the past, to guarantee peace and security. Young people are the most precious resource of the Country. We are proud and honored by your choice.”

Among the audience were high-ranking political, institutional and religious officials such as the Honorable Paola Maria Chiesa, member of the IV Defense Commission, the Councilor for Security of the Lombardy Region, the President of the City Council of Milan, the Gonfalone of the City of Milan, and representatives of the Combatant and Armed Forces Associations.

The participation of the students' families was warm, coming from all over Italy, excited and proud of the milestone achieved by their children after the first intense semester of their stay at the School. Finally, the presence of the numerous former students of the Institute was passionate, with the consequent parade in the queue of the armed units, who met and gathered around their "brothers" attending.

During the ceremony, the commander of the Teulié Military School returned the award to the president of the City Council, Dr. Elena Buscemi. First Tricolour symbol of the “Five Days” of Milan, kept and exhibited at the Institute, in conjunction with a dedicated exhibition thanks to the support of the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo of the Museum of the Risorgimento and the State Archives of Milan.
