Solidarity day in support of Operation Smile Italia Onlus

08/06/14

The Lancieri di Montebello, a historic cavalry regiment of the Italian army, participated yesterday in the "Polo del sorriso", a demonstration in support of the Operation Smile Italia Onlus foundation.

The event took place at the Roman Aqueduct Polo Club of Montecompatri (Rome), in favor of the "Smile House" project in Milan.

During the day, in the name of sport and solidarity, the squadron on horseback of the Lancers of Montebello, accompanied by the fanfare on horseback of the same regiment, exhibited the traditional "carousel of spears", a coordinated series of figures carried out in historical uniform which reproduce the movements in closed order of a mounted cavalry unit.

At the end of the carousel, under the orders of the squadron commander, the spearmen carried out a traditional cavalry charge.

This was followed by a Polo match between two prestigious teams, led by Cataldo d'Andria and Bruce Colley respectively: Italy vs United States.

Hundreds were the participants including many VIPs and lovers of equestrian sport who, through the payment of the ticket, helped to support an important project such as the one linked to the Operation Smile Italia Onlus foundation.

Operation Smile is an international humanitarian organization operating in the health sector, from 1982 in America and active in Italy by the 2000 (Operation Smile Italia Onlus). In Operation Smile, volunteer doctors, nurses and health workers perform humanitarian missions in more than 60 countries around the world. From the 1982 there are more than 5.000 volunteers who have collaborated to perform more than 200.000 surgical operations on children affected by cleft lip (the cleft lip called palpation).
