The large-scale multinational artillery exercise “Dynamic Front 25” has ended, in which Italy participated with Army assets together with over 20 nations and organized in parallel in Finland, Estonia, Poland, Romania and Germany, in cooperation with the US 56th Infantry Regiment.th artillery command and USAREUR-AF (United States Army Europe and Africa).
The exercise aimed to test the level of interoperability between the Armed Forces of the participating NATO nations and partner countries, with particular reference to the implementation of communications between ground artillery technical systems and the multinational management of joint artillery fire in depth in offensive and defensive tactical activities.
During the exercise, the Italian Army deployed assets from the “Folgore” paratrooper brigade drawn from the 185th paratrooper artillery regiment, the 132nd “Ariete” artillery regiment, the 52nd “Torino” artillery regiment and the “horse” land artillery regiment, which together formed a multi-system artillery group. The artillery command was also present, which played the role of leading unit in the command post exercise (CPX) phase.
The Italian military began their activities on October 27, participating, in the following weeks, in a command post exercise (CPX) focused on the planning, coordination and conduct of artillery fire missions of NATO countries, integrating all the fire management systems of the various nations through the ASCA (Artillery Systems Cooperation Activities) protocol, which allows for their interoperability.
Subsequently, the live-fire exercise was conducted, under the guidance of the 185th Parachute Artillery Regiment “Folgore”, within the framework of multinational command and control structures for artillery fire management, with the aim of standardising procedures and conducting integrated fire missions.
Reconstituted with headquarters in Bracciano on 1 July 2013, the 185th Parachute Artillery Regiment is the fire support unit of the “Folgore” brigade and, thanks to the technical skills of its personnel in the artillery field, contributes to making the large unit one of the tools available to the Italian Army to ensure the capacity for immediate response and intervention with the aim of projecting, even at short notice and in short times, devices capable of operating on a broad spectrum in scenarios of increasing complexity.
