Celebrated 163 years of the military veterinary service

The logistics commander of the Army, Army Corps General Mauro D'Ubaldi, attended today in Grosseto the ceremony commemorating the 163rd anniversary of the establishment of the military veterinary service, established by Royal Decree in 1861. The event took place carried out in the “MOVM lieutenant Villi Pasqualini” barracks, home of the military veterinary centre.

The logistics commander, in his speech, thanked, with pride and satisfaction, all the veterinary personnel of the Army, who have always belonged to an intrinsically special service, necessarily composed of a few selected units, incessantly engaged on the national territory and abroad .

Colonel Siena, head of the veterinary department of the Army's health and veterinary command, in his speech addressed to veterinary officers from all over Italy, highlighted how the military veterinary service, since its establishment, has always supported the Army units in all the main activities that have marked the history of the country, constantly guaranteeing timely and punctual technical support in the changing operational conditions and geographical and socio-cultural scenarios in which the Armed Forces have been called upon to operate. "Professionalism - concluded the head of the veterinary department - it is the cornerstone on which our technical organization is based. It is the center of gravity and point of strength".

The Army veterinary service is responsible for the hygiene and safety of food intended for Army personnel, the health and welfare of Armed Forces animals, the prevention of diseases transmitted by animals in the military community, the prevention of the importation of diseases exotic products to protect the national zootechnical heritage.​

Present at the event were the civil, military and religious authorities of the City and Province of Grosseto, representatives of national veterinary institutions of the Ministry of Health, the national body for veterinary welfare and assistance and the veterinary academic world.​
