30/06/14

The 2014 edition of the European under 23 fencing championships, held in Tbilisi in Georgia during this week, closes for the blue sabers with team silver.

The team, composed of the caporal major Martina Criscio, the corporal Chiara Mormile, Sofia Ciaraglia and the only medalist with a silver in the individual rehearsal Rebecca Gargano, is redeemed from the disappointing individual performances of last Wednesday, and takes home, in the last day of competition, a silver that ranks Italy second in the general medal table of the championships behind Russia and before Belarus.

As a result of the only five nations registered in the continental event, the second place of the Italian team started directly from the semifinal with the victory over Belarus for 45 at 43, then with the dispute of the final against Russia lost to 45 at 41, quest team last victorious in the quarterfinals against Poland for 45 at 30.

It should be noted that the Polish team, together with the Georgian team, were the only ones to have played the eighth finals closed in favor of the first for 45 at 22; the defeat gained with Russia, however, subsequently forced Poland to fight for the bronze against the Belarusian losing it with the final score of 45 to 41.
