Army: three mortar bombs defused by the Taurinense bomb squad

A team of bomb squads from the 32nd Genius Regiment Gunsmiths intervened in Albugnano to clear three Italian 81 mm mortar bombs, dating back to the Second World War, found by a farmer during work in a field.

Promptly concerned by the prefecture and by adopting all the necessary precautions and the utmost attention also to the government security protocols linked to Covid-19, the specialists of the 32nd regiment of genius who broke the "Taurinense" alpine brigade stationed in Fossano immediately intervened to neutralize the bombs, which were detonated safely in a field near the location.

The timely intervention of the alpine bomb squads, in close synergy with the prefecture of Asti, the carabinieri of Castelnuovo Don Bosco and the medical staff of the Military Red Cross, has made it possible to better coordinate the activity, reducing the time needed to secure the bombs and allowing their neutralization. Since the beginning of the year, more than 45 the interventions that the engineers of Fossano have conducted on the North-West territory.

Also during the coronavirus emergency, the bomb squads continued their activities of remediation of explosive devices for the safety of the population, with particular attention to the protection of urban contexts.

It is an essential work that, compatibly with the current restrictive measures, often sees them also engaged in carrying out information lessons for students and workers on construction sites, in order to highlight to them the important precautionary activities to be put in place in the event of discovery of weapons and war artifacts.
