A team of the 9th Alpine Regiment of the Alpine Brigade Taurinense intervened in recent days in Fonte Chivignano, in the territory of the Municipality of Molina Aterno, contributing to the extinction of a fire that broke out due to lightning. The intervention took place at the request of the prefecture of L'Aquila and following the activation received from Southern operational forces command Army.

A team Anti Forest Fire and a core for earthmoving, under the "Vicenza" multifunctional battalion, combat support unit staffed by the 9th Alpine regiment, has allowed the construction of a forest line with a total length of about 500 meters, which covered a considerable importance in the subsequent shutdown phases, allowing the modules Anti Forest Fire of the Fire Brigade and the Civil Protection to arrive more easily close to the fire front. The intervention of the Army soldiers, in addition to limiting the fire, made it possible, at a later time, to carry out the reclamation of the undergrowth, aimed at avoiding a resumption of the fire. In this context, the team Anti Forest Fire, made up of suitably qualified personnel within the regiment, also contributed to the extinguishing of the last remaining fumaroles, thus securing the entire area, characterized by steep slopes and dense low vegetation that fueled the fire for days.

L'Aquila Alpine troops are not new to this type of interventions throughout the Abruzzo Region, having already been activated on several occasions: from the fire of Monte Morrone in 2017 to that of Monte Pettino in 2020, which threatened the western part of the city of L'Aquila and some neighboring countries, also passing through the numerous operations that took place in 2021, including that in the municipality of Pizzoferrato (Chieti), for which the Regiment was awarded honorary citizenship last October.
