Over 400 paratroopers engaged in recent weeks in the "Wrangler 22" exercise, at the training area of ​​Monte Romano (VT), which involved a "minor multi-weapon complex following an air launch", on a training company basis ( Permanent Training Company) of the 183 ° "Nembo" parachute regiment, reinforced by a heavy armored platoon of the regiment Savoy Cavalry (3rd), assets of the 8th Paratrooper Engineers Regiment and a section of the 185th Parachute Artillery Regiment.

The exercise was planned, prepared and conducted as a warfighting-oriented specialty training activity, as required by the Northern Operation Force Command, according to the typical lines of use of the air troops and, in order to consolidate the combat capabilities of the units of the "Folgore" paratrooper brigade to be readily usable in operations full spectrum, achieving a concrete and solid integration between units Fighting, Combat Support (CS) and Combat Service Support (CSS), right from the planning stage.

The exercise is part of the broader objective of training paratroopers in the conduct of airborne operations, also in the light of the reference doctrinal update, in particular of the so-called forced entry operations (Joint Forcible Entry Operations), also carried out in hostile territory for the conquest and subsequent occupation of a solid and safe position (lodgement), in order to conduct one or more subsequent operations. In these operations, the initial entry rate (Initial Entry Forces) has the task of favoring and protecting the arrival of the next rate (Follow-on Forces), which intervenes to replace and / or expand the positions occupied by the rate of initial entry and / or continue operations.

An accurate planning phase was followed by partial tests and the ROC Drill (Rehearsal Of Concept - terrain model) by the commanders of the multi-weapon device, in order to achieve maximum synchronization and coordination capacity, as a premise of the conducted phase. aimed at creating an air boarding head. The logistical support to the air-boarding force during the conduct phase was ensured with "loaded" aircraft from the aviation component of the "Folgore" brigade, which constitutes a fundamental operational pawn with a high strategic value, as well as an essential set-up for the sustainability of an airborne operation.

Furthermore, the multi-weapon minor complex has integrated specific capabilities such as sharpshooters, JTACs, JFSTs and military rescuers, in order to maximize the training opportunity with a view to combined arms. The curved shooting components, although used "in white", took advantage of the training event to implement the cooperation procedures basic weapon e artillery, in preparation for a specific training event that in the near future will involve all the components supporting the maneuver of the large combat unit.
