An important exercise has just been completed for the personnel of the 5th Alpine Regiment of Vipiteno who, in the course of a continuous 48-hour activity, wanted to test the skills acquired at the end of an intense and typical training period. departments of the Alpine troops of the Army. In full compliance with the rules for the containment of Covid-19, about a hundred soldiers of the 5th Alpine regiment of the "Julia" brigade carried out a training cycle lasting 9 weeks, which ended with the exercise "Heartbreak Ridge ”, In which the military have ventured into numerous activities, peculiar to the specialty they belong to.

In two days of continuous activity, the military traveled about 50 km on foot, on skis or wearing snowshoes, depending on the terrain. Along the development of the itinerary, various technical-tactical activities were carried out, such as shooting ranges with small arms, orienteering, first aid and transport of the injured; but there was no lack of activities peculiar to the alpine specialty, to underline the importance of maintaining a high level of training and operational skills to be able to operate at best - and in safety - in the mountain environment: the military have in fact trained in search of personnel overwhelmed by avalanches using the devices and equipment supplied to the Alpine troops, and overcoming obstacles by using basic mountaineering techniques, knowledge of which is essential to safely tackle rough and compartmentalized terrain.

The activity also made it possible to train the personnel of the command and logistic support company, which ensured essential services to the personnel exercised thanks to the deployment of field kitchens, tents and toilet modules, continuing to regularly exercise the ability to to be able to carry out operations in full autonomy for a certain period of time.
