The “Steel Dragon” exercise, an intense two-week training activity conceived, organized and conducted by the 8th Bersaglieri Regiment with the support of the specialized assets of the “Garibaldi” Bersaglieri Brigade units, has concluded at the Persano military complex. The exercise tested the interoperability between the multi-weapon assets deployed on the field, consolidating the procedures for their use in scenarios warfighting.
The 8th Bersaglieri Regiment conducted, during the first week, the planning and study of the terrain where to operate. In the second week, it carried out offensive and defensive activities, with opposing parties and in a non-permissive environment, applying all the techniques, tactics and procedures typical of the infantry platoon on the “Dardo” armored vehicle, operating in perfect synergy with the other units of the brigade and using snipers, anti-tank units and military rescuers.
The use of wagons Ram of the 4th regiment and the PZH 2000 section of the 8th artillery regiment “Pasubio”, with the support of the Fire Support Team (FST) ensured freedom of movement to the infantry, while the 21st engineer regiment contributed to the operations to support mobility and overcome obstacles on the ground. The logistics regiment “Garibaldi” was also involved in the maneuver and, with its peculiarities, ensured supplies and logistical support, guaranteeing the operational continuity of the deployed assets. The reconnaissance units on VTLM Lince of the light cavalry regiment “Guide” (19th) covered the key role of the opposition forces (OPFOR), ensuring the realism and therefore the success of the exercise.
The “Steel Dragon” demonstrated the excellent level of preparation achieved by all participating personnel, confirming the commitment made by the brigade units to ensure a constant level of readiness and guarantee the ability to operate in any crisis scenario quickly and effectively.
