The Army bomb disposal experts of the 2nd Piacenza bridge engineer regiment neutralized an aircraft bomb found during construction work inside a private property, in the hamlet of Porto Santo Stefano in the municipality of Monte Argentario. The intervention was coordinated by the Grosseto prefecture and the command North Operating Forces of Padua.

The device found is an aircraft bomb from the Second World War weighing approximately 213 kg, containing approximately 66 kg of high explosive, with a single activation device (fuse) as a "tail" safety device.

Given the peculiarity of the type of intervention, an area within a radius of 200 meters from the point where the device was found was closed, with the closure of the affected municipal roads.

The Italian Army specialists, who entered into action at 09:00, took care of transporting the device to the "Albanesi" quarry, in the neighbouring municipality of Manciano, for final destruction.

For the Piacenza bomb disposal experts, this was the first "complex" intervention of the year.

During 2024, 300 interventions on war devices of all types were carried out in the 13 provinces (Piacenza, Parma, Reggio Emilia, Modena, Massa-Carrara, Pisa, Lucca, Pistoia, Grosseto, Livorno, Arezzo, Prato and Siena) under the jurisdiction of the 2nd Engineer Bridge Regiment.

The Army, thanks to the technical skills of highly specialized personnel, contributes daily to the security of the country, conducting this type of intervention in total safety, throughout the Italian territory to support the national community in the event of public disasters.
