"Special" contamination: 'Savoy' in training with RRAO

14/03/14

Last Friday, with the final debriefing on the activities carried out in the previous two weeks, the 3 exploring squadron "De Leone" concluded a brief but intense training period.

This was made possible thanks to the fruitful collaboration between the Savoia Cavalleria (3 °) regiment of Grosseto, framed in the "Folgore" paratroopers brigade since September 2013, and the 185 Regiment Recognition and Objective Acquisition (RRAO) of Livorno, which recently has passed under the command of the forces for special operations of the Army (COMFOSE).

The 3 ° exploring squadron, the first Squadron of Savoy, organically composed of personnel in possession of a military parachuting patent, is preparing to face the ICOLO exercise, aimed at the evaluation on the ground of the parachutist knights (Initial Operational Capability) by the brigade command paratroopers "Folgore".

In the framework of the preparation for the ICOLO exercise, the staff of the 3 ° squadron of Savoy dealt enthusiastically with the demanding program proposed by the RRAO detachment.

During the two weeks of intense activity, the parachutists trained in the use of the recently installed sophisticated day and night vision equipment by the regiment. They were able to practice the analysis and planning of complex patrol operations, as well as deepening the techniques of observation and operational reconnaissance, a typical activity of medium-range exploration.

The course ended with a continuous practical activity held in the last 5-7 March days, aimed at acquiring objectives following the infiltration of two exploring patrols. The patrols had been tasked with detecting the presence of a terrorist in a simulated insurgents training camp.

The exercise, which ended positively with the debriefing last Friday, left skydivers not only a deep sense of gratitude and camaraderie towards RRAO colleagues, but also a profound awareness that the road ahead for the regiment it will be challenging, but at the same time exciting and full of those stimulating goals that the Knights of Savoy have always faced with enthusiasm in over 320 years of their history.

In the blue skies ... CARICAT SAVOIA!
