A few days ago, after about a month of training, the “Sandor 01” exercise, which saw the units of the “Garibaldi” Bersaglieri brigade deployed at the Capo Teulada (SU) shooting range, ended. Starting from the end of January, about 350 soldiers of the Bersaglieri "Garibaldi" brigade with the support of other departments of the Italian Army, conducted a series of training activities aimed at maintaining operational capabilities in high-intensity scenarios, always operating in full compliance with current legislation on the prevention of contagion from Covid19.
For two weeks, a multi-weapon complex, held a preparatory session with the Tactical Training Center (CAT) of 1st level of Capo Teulada, the trained unit interacted with the observation and control teams of the CAT, putting into practice the maneuver planned in the scenario warfighting.
In the following week, in the presence of gen. b. Massimiliano Quarto, commander of the "Garibaldi" Bersaglieri brigade, the main activities of the fire complex of the departments were carried out as well as exercises with individual weapons, shooting qualifications for the specialists on board the "Ariete" tanks and armored combat vehicles " Dart".
On March 8, the exercise of the multi-weapon complex based on the "Guide" cavalry regiment (19th), a tactical act in which, following the reclamation and verification of an obligatory passage by the sappers of the 21st Engineers Regiment, the land maneuver was also guaranteed by the use of helicopters and infantry aircraft of the Army Aviation.
In particular, the crews of the 7th AVES "Vega" regiment, perfectly integrated into the maneuver, guaranteed the safety and surveillance of the operation area using the AH129 helicopters Mongoose and the medical evacuation of the injured on an NH90 helicopter, expressing the marked interoperability and procedural standardization. Furthermore, the “RAVEN” drones have constantly guaranteed the observation of the objectives identified in the operation area, supporting the intelligence and command and control functions.
The following day, the multi-weapon complex based on the 1st Bersaglieri Regiment, the maneuver was strongly characterized by the components of protection, mobility and firepower, typically belonging to the heavy forces of the Army.
At the end, the sappers of the 21st engineering regiment concluded the training day with specific activities regarding the handling of explosives, preparatory to the demolition of infrastructural works.
During the exercise, the experimentation of curved shooting was carried out with the "Centauro" busses of the "Cavalleggeri Guide" regiment (19th), the results of which will be systemized with the data already collected by the other cavalry departments of the Italian Army .
