Alpine troops' Arctic Shield exercise concluded

The meeting concluded in the presence of the Army Chief of Staff, General of the Army Corps Carmine Masiello.Arctic Shield, carried out at 2000 metres above sea level in the Pusterese Dolomites, as part of the exercise system White Fox 2025, conceived by the command of the Terrestrial Operations and directed by the Alpine troops command.

Arctic Shield It was configured as a high-tech, multi-party exercise, with demonstrations of cyber capabilities in a mountain/arctic environment, carried out by the 9th cyber security regiment "Rombo", which used modern drones and electronic warfare systems with the fundamental function of enabling, through cutting-edge technologies, the maneuver of the Alpine troops of the 3rd regiment of the "Taurinense" brigade, together with the other departments employed on the ground.

The activity saw the participation of soldiers from the 5th and 7th Alpine Regiments, as well as assets from the 4th Alpine Parachute Regiment “Ranger” and the 5th Artillery Regiment “Superga”, aircraft from the Army Aviation and specialists from the 2nd Engineer Regiment, the 28th “Pavia” Regiment and the 2nd Alpine Transmission Regiment.

There were over 1300 soldiers involved in the “Volpe Bianca” which, in addition to theArctic Shield, included the “Ice Patrol” patrol tests and the “Ice Challenge” ski mountaineering relay, the start of which saw teams from all the Alpine regiments lined up at the start, together with cross-country athletes from the Defense Paralympic Sports Group, in an event dedicated to inclusion, dedicated to the memory of those who died in international post-war missions, remembered through 25 panels placed along the route. As part of the “Volpe Bianca” exercise, the Chief of Staff spoke at theArctic Forum Dolomites 2025, organized by the Alpine troops command.

The Gustav Mahler Auditorium hosted Senator Isabella Rauti, Undersecretary of Defense with responsibility for the Arctic, and numerous international speakers who discussed the new challenges in the far north of the planet, which finds in the Arctic a frontier of global geopolitical balance. The forum opened with a message from Defense Minister Guido Crosetto, read by Division General Michele Risi, Commander of the Alpine troops, who opened the proceedings together with Ambassador Francesco Maria Talò.

The Arctic Forum was divided into three panel, respectively entitled: “Ends: Geopolitical Interests and Challenges”, “Ways: Strategic Approaches for Security and Defense” and “Means: Technological Innovation”.
