03/06/21

The exercise called "Caldarium Effort" was conducted from 24 May to 1 June 2021, aimed at perfecting the skills of CIMIC operators, of the MNCG battalion, to plan and conduct civil-military cooperation activities in an art.5 scenario, or of collective defense of the spaces of the Atlantic Alliance.

The exercise of type livex (live exercise) e cpx (command post exercise) took place between Motta di Livenza, in the province of Treviso, and the training area of Caldaro in the province of Bolzano.

The CIMIC specialists of the Mario Fiore Barracks simulated a scenario that envisaged the intervention of NATO in defense of a member state, victim of terrorist attacks.

The goal was to put the SOPs (Standing Operating Procedures) based on the lessons learned and identified over the years, thanks to the numerous exercises conducted in support of the Joint Force Command of Naples and Brunssum, such as civil-military cooperation structures in favor of the NATO Responce Force (NRF).

The "Caldarium Effort" has developed, without interruption, through activations that have provided a holistic approach to the resolution of the problem, the focus of which has been on the development of the three fundamental functions of CIMIC, namely the civil-military connection, support for force and support for non-military actors and the civilian environment, also involving, as role players, personnel from other Armed Forces or civilians.

The training activity represented a preparatory event for the CREVAL (combat readiness evaluation) which will involve the Multinational CIMIC Group in the second half of 2021.

The exercise was also possible thanks to the CIS (Communication and Information System) support, provided by the 2nd broadcasting regiment, stationed in Bolzano.
