Horses in Rome 2014

27/04/14

Great success on Friday evening for the horses and riders of the 8 spearmen regiment of Montebello during the performance at the Cavalli gala in Rome 2014.

The show began with the fanfare on horseback, commanded by sergeant major Salvatore Pinci, who preceded the historical re-enactment by playing Amazing Grace.

Lovers of the equestrian world were then able to admire the special jumping exercises designed by Captain Federico Caprilli, the so-called "Caprillian" squares, with rather particular obstacles: a set table, chairs and a bicycle.

Then began the carousel of spears commanded by Captain Paolo Mezzanotte which ended with the overwhelming and engaging cavalry charge preceded by the trumpet blasts of the fanfare on horseback.

Finally, the fanfare on horseback played the Hymn of Mameli and Captain Mezzanotte, together with his men, greeted the regiment commander, Colonel Angelo Minelli, present at the event.

The goal was to tell the public, in a different way than usual, the history and traditions of the Army, reinforcing the unique bond that binds the Italian people to our armed force.

The Montebello Lancers regiment operates in two different areas, with the armored squadron group it takes part in peacekeeping missions in foreign theaters in which Italy is involved, while with the horse squadron group, established in 2004, it serves essentially in Rome , where it guards institutional offices and performs representative duties.

The military equestrian center of Rome is also employed by the regiment.

The armed force will be today in pavilion 4 of the new fair in Rome to show the public what connects horses and the military in Italy.
