16/09/14

The army chief of staff, general of army corps Claudio Graziano, presided yesterday, in the building of the "Granguardia" of Verona, the ceremony of change to the leadership of the Command of the Terrestrial Operative Forces (COMFOTER).

After about two and a half years, the army corps general Roberto Bernardini, handed over the leadership of the Verona command to the corps general Alberto Primicerj, former commander of the Alpine troops.

All the commanders of the COMFOTER dependent departments and numerous civil and religious authorities were present at the ceremony, demonstrating the deep ties and synergies with local communities.

General Graziano, in his speech, underlined how in a moment of rationalization it is important to concentrate on the operational forces with the modernization of means and with training because it is an aspect on which one cannot spare. On the sidelines of the ceremony, moreover, answering questions from journalists on the current international situation and on a possible use of army assets, he specified that these are evaluations and decisions that obviously belong to the political authority and parliament. The army, like the other armed forces, is preparing to face the missions assigned to us by the country as we have done in the last 30 years of commitments abroad. It remains essential - added the chief of staff - to give the right attention to training because it is necessary to provide the tools to staff so that they are prepared and do not run unnecessary risks.

The command of the terrestrial operational forces (COMFOTER) is based in Verona and is the command responsible for the preparation, training and preparation of the operating forces of the army used in operations on the national territory and in international missions. From this command depend more than 70.000 units equal to around 70% of the total of the entire armed force.
