With the handover between 132 ° terrestrial artillery regiment "Ariete" and the Genio Ferrovieri regiment of Castel Maggiore (BO), under the command of Colonel Cesare Canicchio, the mandate of the Parisian colonel Mario Feneziani who led the "Umbria" group ended -Marche "during the first half of 2020.
For six months, over 200 soldiers, belonging to the 132nd, to the "Ariete" logistic regiment, to the 132nd tank regiment and to the 28th "Pavia" regiment, daily guaranteed the surveillance of sensitive sites and objectives in competition and together with the Forces of Police from the provinces of Perugia, Macerata, Ancona and Pesaro-Urbino to counter and prevent criminal acts and control of earthquake areas.
Among the main manned sites are the judicial buildings of Perugia and Spoleto, places of worship - including the papal basilicas of S. Francesco d'Assisi and Santa Maria degli Angeli and the Basilica of Santa Rita da Cascia - ports and airports Marche, the inhabited centers between Umbria and Marche affected by the 2016 seismic events.
During the operation, the "Umbria - Marche" group carried out over 5.600 fixed, dynamic surveillance and motorized patrolling activities on the 75 sites and sensitive objectives identified by the prefectural authorities, with over 7.500 identifications, 43 complaints, 5 seizures of narcotic substances and material of various kinds, with over 580.000 kilometers covered in total by Army vehicles in the respective area of responsibility.
These activities followed one another unceasingly also during all phases of the pandemic from COVID-19, for which further tasks were assigned to the 4 complexes of the grouping, seeing them operate in the front line for the implementation of the containment measures established by government authorities, ensuring a valuable competition in favor of the police force.
The fruitful collaboration and the absolute synergy with which military personnel have been able to work alongside the police forces, to the full benefit of the service carried out in favor of public order, have earned the consent of the local government and public security authorities.
