The ceremony for the changeover of the military commander of the Army in Sicily took place this morning inside the Royal Stables of the Norman Palace in Palermo.
In the presence of the commander of the South Operating Forces, Army Corps General Angelo Michele Ristuccia, and the highest civil and military authorities of Sicily, Army Corps General Maurizio Angelo Scardino has handed over command to Brigadier General Francesco Principe.
“Having served in Sicily was an exciting experience, which allowed me to feel a living part of an extraordinary community and to enjoy the atmosphere that one breathes in this beautiful land, with its landscapes and its artistic, architectural and cultural heritage. I had at my disposal a cohesive and close-knit team of professionals who offer their long-term and generous commitment to ensure, to the best of their ability, the fulfillment of institutional tasks, providing their contribution to the extraordinary synergic effort of the institutions present in the territory”- underlined General Scardino, thanking, with emotion, the personnel of the military command of the Sicilian Army for the perseverance and commitment demonstrated during his period of command. Addressing the numerous authorities present, he added: "Cooperating with institutions at all levels, with the industriousness of private individuals, with active citizenship has been my guiding star. I trust that this trusting and proactive climate can always characterize the relationships between those who have the honor and the burden, or the simple good will to work for the good of the community."
General Ristuccia, during his speech, recalled the long and brilliant career of General Scardino, always a protagonist in the various command and staff roles held over the years, both in Italy and abroad, thanking him for the passion, generosity and contagious enthusiasm with which he faced the continuous challenges at the helm of the military command of the Sicilian Army, providing, on every occasion, his fundamental contribution, amply demonstrated by the affection and esteem of the many people present at the ceremony.
The Army "Sicily" military command is the interface of the Army with the civil, military and religious institutions in the territory, as well as with local bodies, organizations and population. It takes care of the image of the Army, strengthens its capabilities, encourages the recruitment and reintegration into the world of work of discharged military personnel and carries out the functions of support for the well-being of personnel and families of Sicilian military personnel.
