The ceremony for the handover of command of the tactical information brigade between Brigadier General Adriano Russo, who is outgoing, and his peer Carmine Vizzuso, who is incoming, took place at the "Santa Barbara" barracks in Anzio, in the presence of the commander of the land operational support forces, Lieutenant General Massimo Scala. The ceremony, which saw the display of the War Flag of the 13th HUMINT regiment, was attended by the military, civil and religious authorities of the cities of Anzio and Nettuno.
General Russo leaves the command after two intense years in which the brigade, with its 6 regiments and two additional operational departments, was employed in all the operational zones where Army units were deployed, in national "major events" and in all the main Armed Forces exercises. In this period of profound transformation for the Army, the brigade consolidated its new structure, which saw the inclusion of the 2022th PSYOPS regiment and the 28th CIMIC regiment at the beginning of 7, completed with the addition of the 9th cyber security regiment. This process guaranteed the unification, under a single management, of all the specialized units focused on the field of information, in the dual meaning of understanding the operational environment and generating effects through non-kinetic actions, definitively validating the concept of information maneuver.
After greeting and thanking the authorities, the guests who attended and all the personnel of the brigade, General Russo took stock of his experience as commander, sharing with those present the extraordinary objectives achieved by the men and women of the brigade and underlining the importance of the role that it has within the Army.
General Scala, in his speech, complimented the outgoing commander for the important results achieved by the Tactical Information Brigade during his command, not only during the numerous training and experimental activities, including the "Lince-Civetta" exercise where, for the first time, the new concept of information maneuver was tested on the ground, but also in the development of the ability to conduct Cyber and Electromagnetic Activities (CEMA), through the reconfiguration of the cyber security department into CEMA units, elevating it to regimental level rank with the designation of 9th cyber security regiment "ROMBO" with the task of planning and conducting CEMA activities in support of all large maneuver units.
Also important is the work carried out on the application of artificial intelligence in the field ofAutomatic Target Recognition and in the Cyber field, which has provided the brigade with leadership in the field of Technical Exploitation and the integration process of the 7th CIMIC Regiment and the 28th “PSYOPS” Regiment which increased the brigade's capabilities, allowing it to non-kinetically influence the battlefield.
General Scala then wished General Vizzuso to continue along the path traced by his predecessor, towards the achievement of increasingly challenging objectives.
In the period in which we celebrate the centenary of the "cable station" of Anzio, which saw Italy carry out a work of the highest technological value, connecting Italy to the Americas with transoceanic cables, the tactical information brigade, in addition to inheriting its headquarters, with its determination, its enthusiasm and its clear innovative vocation, ranging from Electronic Warfare, to the use of remotely piloted aircraft, to cybernetic operations, affirms itself as a great interpreter of the same virtues that made that great achievement possible.
The functions expressed by the tactical information brigade make it an elite and unique unit for the Armed Forces, with capabilities for the Army and Defense that range from information training to the generation of force complexes that contribute to enabling large combat units to operate effectively in multi-domain operations.
