The presentation of the “CalendEsercito 8”, entitled “L'Italia Liberata”, took place this morning in the Hall of Honor of the “Lancieri di Montebello” regiment (2025th) in Rome, in the presence of the Undersecretary of State for Defense, Senator Isabella Rauti.
Il CalendExercise 2025 closes a historical trilogy that, starting from the 2023 edition, wanted to tell what happened from the days following the armistice of September 8, 1943 until the Liberation of the Country on April 25, 1945.
The editorial work retraces the main military events in which the reconstituted Army took part, from Italian Liberation Corps to the combat groups, illustrating the feats and courage of the corps and auxiliary units that participated in the Resistance as well as the fundamental contribution offered by the armed forces to the post-war reconstruction of Italy.
The event, broadcast live on the web channels of Forza Armata, was presented by the Chief of Staff of the Army, General of the Army Corps Carmine Masiello, by Professor Roberto Balzani, full professor of contemporary history and director of the Department of History, Cultures and Civilizations of the University of Bologna, as well as president of the historical museum of the Liberation, and by Professor Gastone Breccia, expert in military history and professor at the University of Pavia, with the moderation of the journalist Sabrina Cavezza.
Army Corps General Carmine Masiello, in recalling the importance of the role of the Army and the General Staff in the liberation of the country, through the Military Information Service, underlined: “This calendar closes the trilogy of Army calendars dedicated to the war of liberation. The trilogy was created with the aim of making Italians better aware of the Army's commitment and contribution to the liberation of the country. April 25, 2025 will commemorate the eightieth anniversary of the proclamation of the liberation of Italy; a day to be celebrated as a celebration of all Italians, of all of us. April 25, 1945 represents, in fact, a fundamental date in the history of our Republic. For our country, it meant the affirmation of democracy and freedom, the end of the war and the regained independence, of which the Army was an active and fundamental part. From September 8, in just 98 days, the Italian Army was able to react and return to fight and win to liberate the country, demonstrating great moral strength”.
Senator Rauti, closing the presentation, highlighted: “Learning from the past is understanding how to act today. Knowing our national history is essential to understanding the present and designing the future, especially in the current global geopolitical scenario characterized by growing tensions, pervasive instability and hybrid threats to security”.
Also this year, a portion of the proceeds from the sales of the CalendArmy will be donated to theNational Assistance Organization for Orphans and Career Soldiers of the Army (ONAOMCE) which assists approximately 500 orphans of officers, non-commissioned officers, graduates and military personnel, providing annual subsidies for school education and for particular economic-family needs.
