Bulgaria: CBRN Validation for Multinational Battle Group

(To Army Majority State)
23/12/24

The exercise ended in the last few days fall out 24 for the multinational battle group (MN BG) deployed at the Novo Selo base in Bulgaria.

Specialized personnel of the multinational battle group, commanded by Colonel Federico Maddaluno, conducted a series of specific training activities aimed first at updating procedures for the protection of personnel in contaminated environments and subsequently at reconnaissance, delimitation of the affected areas and operational decontamination of personnel, a fundamental activity to ensure the rapid resumption of activities following a CBRN event.

Specifically, the operational companies, supported by specialized personnel from the CBRN platoon serving in the battle group, trained to identify possible CBRN threats, demarcating the areas affected by contamination with appropriate signage, sending reference messages and implementing all procedures aimed at containing and neutralizing the threat as established by NATO guidelines.

The aim of the numerous and diversified training activities that the units of the multinational battle group frequently conduct is to constantly maintain the high level of standardization and integration achieved so far in the use of NATO procedures as well as the rapid use of the equipment and tools in service.

The NATO mission conducted by the national contingent is defensive in nature, proportionate and fully in line with the international commitment of the Atlantic Alliance which aims to strengthen the principles of deterrence and defence against potential threats and defence of Euro-Atlantic spaces.

The operations and exercises conducted by the Italian Armed Forces on NATO's eastern flank are ordered by the Chief of Defence Staff and are under the coordination and direction of the Joint Operations Command (COVI), led by Lieutenant General Francesco Paolo Figliuolo.
