Julia Brigade: Osoppo 2022 exercise concluded in Friuli

In recent days in the training areas of Upper Friuli, the "Osoppo 2022" exercise took place, the third activity to verify operational capabilities, organized in 2022 by the "Julia" brigade, after Monte "Antelao" in Friuli Venezia Giulia , Veneto and Trentino Alto Adige and the "Pieve di Cadore" in Sardinia.

The command posts of the three Alpine regiments and the Cavalry regiment, deployed in the central area of ​​Friuli Venezia Giulia, were coordinated in the 72 continuous hours of exercise, with the focus of the exercise aimed at verifying the intervention capabilities of the Army units .

In this case, the 3rd Artillery Regiment of Remanzacco deployed the “Conegliano” group to support the operations of the “Osoppo '22” at the Rivolto air base (UD), home to the 2nd wing of the Air Force. 

The abilities of the joint fire support team of the Alpine artillery, which managed the coordination of fire support in favor of the maneuvering units by the artillery batteries with FH70 howitzers, a MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket System) battery in competition by the 5th "Superga" regiment and, through the highly specialized assets present, also the fire support by air components of allied countries, thanks to the intervention of US aircraft from the nearby Aviano base, which participated in the exercise.

The black feathers lined up received a visit from the commander of the alpine troops, general of the army corps Ignazio Gamba who, accompanied by the commander of the brigade, the brigadier general Fabio Majoli, was able to verify the training activity on the field. The exercise had a multinational connotation with the use of personnel from the Hungarian, Slovenian and Austrian Armed Forces of the permanent planning staff of Multinational Land Force (MLF). 

To further test the level of synergy of the dependent units, a supply column was carried out by the "Julia" Logistics Regiment, which saw a total of about 30 tons of material move from the Merano headquarters to the airport. di Rivolto, supported by a company of the 2nd sapper genius of Trento, which carried out reconnaissance and reclamation of the itineraries.

The "Julia" command and tactical support department in Udine has also set up a field hospital, Role2, in the Gemona del Friuli area, where, throughout the exercise period, emergency health interventions and medical evacuation of the wounded from the deployed wards were simulated.

The next “Julia” exercise will be the “Edolo” by the 5th and 7th Alpini in the area of ​​Monte Bivera, on the border between Alta Carnia and Cadore.
