6-year balance sheet of the "Strade Sicure" operation

The sixth year of the Strade Sicure operation closes with a positive balance, with the start of the 4 August 2008 with the "employment plan of the personnel of the armed forces in the control of the territory", launched the 29 July 2008 with a decree to signature of interior and defense ministers.

Since the beginning of the activities, men and women of the army, as well as 4.000 units, guarantee safety on the national territory by operating in the main cities.

The results obtained are very important: more than 2 tons of drugs, over 620 weapons and 12000 vehicles were seized, nearly 14.500 arrests were made and about 2 million people and over one million vehicles were checked.

The army personnel acts with the functions of public security agent, in competition with the police, and can proceed to the identification and immediate search of persons and means in order to prevent or prevent behavior that could endanger the the safety of citizens and the safety of supervised places.

Moreover, from the 7 Aprile 2014, in the provinces of Naples and Caserta, the "Terra dei Fuochi" operation began for the waste emergency in the Campania region.

Here 100 soldiers engaged in the "Safe Roads" device, are active with the specific task of identifying and possibly stopping people suspected of abandoning and burning toxic waste and of signaling and carrying out a digital mapping of the areas subject to such illegal actions.

The first four months of activity have made it possible to improve the knowledge of the territory and to create a relationship of trust and collaboration with the populations of the areas concerned.
