At the historic headquarters of the Military Geographical Institute (IGM), the ceremony of rotation of the commander of the Military Geographical Institute between the army corps general Massimo Panizzi and the division general Luigi Postiglione took place.
The ceremony, presided over by the deputy commander and commander of the command's territorial area Terrestrial Operations, gen. ca Gianpaolo Mirra, saw the deployment of the IGM Institute Flag and the participation of numerous civil and military authorities, including the president of the Tuscany Region Eugenio Giani, the prefect of Florence Francesca Ferrandino and the mayor of Florence Sara Funaro.
The general ca Gianpaolo Mirra, during his speech, thanked General Panizzi for the precious contribution he provided as IGM commander, underlining that “under his leadership the IGM has made important steps forward in the process of developing its capabilities, a process that began more than 150 years ago and which continues while maintaining the traditions and history of the Institute firmly, aiming decisively towards the future , through the use of the most sophisticated technologies. The general Panizzi was able to interpret in an excellent manner the three directions along which the development of the Army moves, values, training and technology, declining them in the continuous reference to the centuries-old history of the Institute, in the exaltation of the specialized preparation of the personnel and in the continuous drive towards innovation, increasingly affirming the role of excellence of the IGM both within the Armed Forces and for the entire country".
Army Corps General Massimo Panizzi highlighted: "Commanding is always a team game. It was an honor to do so while also representing Italy in international contexts. Today, above all, I want to remember the fallen who gave their lives for our country. I leave the Military Geographic Institute with the awareness to have also worked for a future that is up to the challenges of modern technology, in the name of Values and the centrality of training. I thank the Chief of Staff for the trust placed in me, the great Army Family that hosted me and, more generally, life. Welcome to General Postiglione, certain that he will be able to lead our Institute towards even more ambitious goals."
Division General Luigi Postiglione remarked: “Honored to be able to hold the position of commander of this prestigious body which is the State Cartographic Body and a strategic resource for the Armed Forces: innovation, technology and professionalism of the civil and military personnel are essential and immanent ingredients. I wish Army Corps General Massimo Panizzi a bright and satisfying future, thanking him for his exquisite hospitality in recent days and for what he has done on an operational and relational level in favor of this wonderful Institute".
