The "Carè Alto 2024" operation concluded in recent days, a delicate high-altitude reclamation activity which saw the Army bomb squad belonging to the 2nd sapper engineering regiment of the "Julia" alpine brigade engaged in the search, recovery and neutralization of numerous artillery shells dating back to the First World War found at over 2800 meters above sea level on the Adamello mountain group.
The devices, fifty-three artillery grenades of different calibres, 50 of 75 mm, 2 of 149 mm and 1 of 120 mm - were found in excellent condition on Monte Carè Alto, near Bocchetta del Cannone (2850 m). and Cima Pozzoni (2915 m).
A complex activity made possible thanks to the synergy of the bomb squad of the Alpine troops, in collaboration with the helicopter unit of the Autonomous Province of Trento, the Forestry Corps of the Autonomous Province of Trento, the military corps of Italian Red Cross and local law enforcement. The phases took place under the coordination of the government commissioner of Trento and the Alpine troops command of Bolzano.
The activity concluded successfully with the securing and transport of the ordnance downstream for subsequent neutralization.
The engineering departments of the Italian Army intervene daily to clear the territory of the numerous war remnants still present today and dating back to the 1st and 2nd World War, guaranteeing the safety of citizens.
In the event of the discovery of explosives - the Army specialists remind us - the utmost caution must be adopted because these devices are always considered highly dangerous: they should not be touched but promptly reported to the police.
