The high mountain combat exercise “Cerces 2024” concluded in France, in which Italian personnel from the Alpine Brigade participated Taurinense and French personnel belonging to the mountain troops of the 7th bataillon de chasseurs alpins.

The activity saw the participation of a platoon of the 3rd Alpine Regiment, in the context of a fire attack of minor multi-weapon complex developed in the Valloire polygon, in Haute-Savoie.

The firefight, carried out at over 2500 metres above sea level, in extreme weather conditions, saw the synergic use in attack and defence of the Alpine troops, French infantry units, armoured vehicles and fire from mortars and anti-tank weapons.

The Alpine troops maneuvered to gain an advantageous position over the enemy by covering over 15 kilometers and almost 1000 meters of altitude difference on snow-covered terrain.

A French UAV team has been assigned to reinforce the Alpine platoon in order to increase its reconnaissance and observation capabilities of the battlefield.

The activity demonstrated the consolidated cooperation capabilities between the Italian and French Alpine troops, based not only on common NATO procedures, but above all on the perseverance and determination that characterise daily training in the challenging mountain environment.
