An important phase of the ski-mountaineering training of the units of the "Taurinense" alpine brigade ended yesterday in Bousson (TO).

The activity saw the platoons of the brigade regiments - equipped for combat in mountain and winter environments - confronting each other in a demanding series of topographical, ski-mountaineering and avalanche rescue tests, alternating with gun shooting sessions portable and hand grenade. The training was based on the same tests that will involve over a thousand soldiers from all Alpine departments in the White Fox exercise - Ca.STA (Ski Championships of Alpine Troops), an important moment of verification of training in knowing how to operate in snowy mountain environment scheduled in the Olympic valleys of the Upper Val di Susa from 9 to 12 March.

Since the beginning of the winter period, the mountain activities of the "Taurinense" have followed one another without interruption. Ski-mountaineering training represents for Alpine Troops one of the fundamental moments of their specialist training. The numerous courses held in the winter season allow the Alpini to deepen their knowledge of the materials and their correct use, provide the basic concepts related to the snow phenomenon, in order to prevent the risks of avalanches, and train them in self-rescue and rescue techniques organized in mountain environment. Safety and rescue are, in fact, elements that characterize the use of Alpine Units.

The daily training that the "Taurinense" carries out in the mountains not only aims to improve the purely operational aspects, but is also aimed at increasing citizens' safety. Nuclei of Military Assistants at the ski slopes are present in the Piedmont areas of the Via Lattea, Bardonecchia, Pragelato and Frabosa Soprana and in the Abruzzese ones of Campo Imperatore and Campo Felice.

Still on the subject of mountain safety, the "Taurinense" alpine troops perform meteorological and snow measurements for the Meteomont, the service managed by the Alpine Troops Command of Bolzano which, through a network of automatic and manual stations, constantly monitors the temperature values , humidity, precipitation, state and quantity of snow, with particular attention to the danger of avalanches and avalanches. This data is collected and processed to provide citizens with the warning bulletins also used by the Civil Protection services.
