Alluvione Emilia: Army vessels to rescue the population

Other military 100 of the Army have been added, since yesterday, to the 60 already committed to rescuing the populations hit by the flooding since the first hours of the emergency in the Modena area.

Today in fact, in the afternoon, the territorial office of the Government of Modena asked for a further contribution from soldiers and Army vehicles to support the residents of the affected municipalities.

In addition to the tactical means of the army used since Sunday afternoon, from this evening 10 boats and special equipment of the genius regiments of the armed force will be added.

In the day of today the army soldiers, in coordination with the firefighters, took steps to rescue personnel forced to abandon their homes flooded due to the flooding of the Panaro river, among them also the parish priest of the municipality of Bonporto (Mo) and some elderly people from the same country.

The Armed Force, thanks to the "dual-use" capacity of its engineering departments, in addition to operational use in international missions, is able to intervene in cases of public disasters and usefulness, at any time, throughout the Italian territory to support of the national community as recently occurred on the occasion of the bad weather emergency in Sardinia and as is happening in these last hours in Emilia.
